In recent weeks, I have discussed marketing plans, marketing strategy, and audience research, as these are foundational elements for building a strong brand. Another important aspect in your video advertising and content creation business is marketing research. Creators need to harness the power of marketing research skills as they are a vital part of a thriving business. This article will explore guidelines for establishing your marketing research questions and how to execute your own research in your field.
What is Marketing Research?
Marketing research is a process we use to design, gather, and analyze data. This data is then used to solve a specific problem. This process can help link a service to a consumer. For a more detailed description, Director of Marketing, Jaclyn Tanenbaum, states that this process is also used to address needs or problems in a business, to improve the understanding of marketing, and to find opportunities within a business. The most useful aspects of marketing research are the following:
Timely
Objective
Accurate
Up to Date
Easy to understand
Actionable
When To Do Research
You might be questioning at this point, when you should start something like this. The answer is to stop for a moment and evaluate your current performance in your field. Regardless if you are doing video advertising, content creation, or video marketing, there will be questions you can ask yourself to uncover a research need. This is actually part of the process that will help you develop your research skills. As I wrote in my past article about researching your audience, start by taking a look at how you can improve your workflow by understanding your target audience. Your research question can then be something like, “Why do my viewers like my content?” Or “what makes a viewer consume video media?” Those questions can lead you to discovering a research need you weren’t aware of. Start asking these questions today and see what you discover.
Digital Media Meets Research
With today’s ever-expanding digital landscape, there are limitless sources to conduct research, which also means limitless ideas! Don’t be afraid of asking questions of your viewers or clients to see their opinions, feelings, and reasoning for their specific media interests. Reach out to other creators and search online sources for studies about media influence on specific demographics to see how you can improve your marketing and your business. Doing so will not only improve your understanding of market research but also help you understand your audience, your work, and the unique style you bring to the online world. What questions will you ask today?
